Closing Statement
Taking ENC3252 was an extremely valuable experience that provided me with useful skills, knowledge, and a stronger sense of direction for the kind of career I would like to pursue in the future.

In regard to my potential profession, the ongoing trade journal project helped me learn about the professional field my degree is preparing me for (digital film and television production) by allowing me to immerse myself in the world of filmmaking. I finished the project with a better understanding of what types of positions in the field I do and do not want to pursue, as well as what sorts of skills I should develop and improve on during my time at college to best prepare me for areas of work I am interested in. Besides the trade journal project, learning about the concept of strategic communication as a whole and the various ways it can be executed by an organization or individual provided me with knowledge that I believe can be applied in any profession I go on to pursue that involves communication at some level.

Completing the projects in this class reaffirmed to me how much I enjoy doing creative work, especially projects that involve making information come together in an organized, visually pleasing way. I especially enjoyed the place based branding project, as it allowed me to combine my writing skills with my interests in photography and layout design to create content that I could see myself and others benefiting from. Working on additional creative projects such as the native ad project and the content marketing strategy proposal strengthened my desire to pursue a profession that allows me to produce similar work and continue exercising creativity in this manner. These projects served as my first formal introduction to the ins and outs of the marketing/advertising field, interesting me in gearing my college education toward a profession that overlaps with such a field.

Looking to the future, I hope to use the foundation this course has provided to build stronger skills and gain more knowledge pertaining to marketing and advertising. I believe I could easily combine the knowledge gained from this course with the technical skills provided by my Media Production degree to pursue a creative, multi-faceted career in promotional media and branded content. The content marketing strategy project taught me how to assess the marketing needs of a business, as well as how to engage with business owners in a professional manner, skills that would surely prove useful in the aforementioned career. Completing the projects in this class also made me want to continue pursuing and practicing graphic design, whether that may be through future coursework or simply as a hobby.

Overall, this course served as a valuable introduction to the world of strategic communication and content creation, leaving me with a desire to dive deeper into both.
